Tate cuts 7% of workforce due to funding deficit
Tate, the UK art institution, is cutting its workforce by 7 percent due to a funding deficit linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. This reduction will affect about forty roles through voluntary departures and hiring freezes. Despite an increase in domestic visitors, international attendance remains low. Tate's funding comes from ticket sales, private donations, and government grants, with a deficit budget approved to develop a sustainable plan. The staff cuts coincide with ongoing projects, including a major redevelopment of Tate Liverpool and the restoration of a studio space at Tate St. Ives. The organization is also preparing to celebrate Tate Modern's twenty-fifth anniversary.
