Teagan O'Dell leads Santa Margarita to swim victory

Teagan O’Dell had an impressive day at the Mt. SAC Winterfest Championships. The senior swimmer led her team, Santa Margarita, to victory in both girls and boys competitions. She won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly events. O’Dell recorded a time of 1 minute, 43.95 seconds in the 200 free and 52.73 seconds in the 100 butterfly. She also helped the 200 free relay team win with a strong lead-off time of 22.59 seconds. This was just shy of her county record of 22.40 from last year. Gracyn Aquino, another standout senior committed to Cal, won the 50 free with a time of 22.97 seconds. The girls' team scored a total of 1,022 points, easily beating Clovis West, which scored 467 points. On the boys’ side, junior Bennett Korner won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.42. The Santa Margarita boys' team accumulated 827 points to outpace Granite Bay and Oak Ridge, which scored 547 and 503 points, respectively. In other swimming news, at the Mission Viejo Invitational, Mater Dei’s Elonzo Santos set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.13 seconds. Natalia San Jose of Mission Viejo and Chase Shipp of Laguna Beach won titles in diving at that event.
