Tech Mahindra head detained in Qatar since January

Amit Gupta, the region head for Tech Mahindra in Qatar, has been detained by Qatari authorities since January 2025. Gupta, who is originally from Vadodara, is facing allegations related to possible data theft. However, specific charges have not been made public. The Indian Embassy in Doha is actively supporting Gupta and has been in regular contact with his family and legal representatives. A source mentioned that the embassy is following the case closely and providing all possible assistance. Gupta's family insists he is innocent and claims he has been falsely accused. His wife has sought help from the Prime Minister's Office, and his father has reached out to Anand Mahindra, the chairman of Mahindra Group, for support. Reports from Vadodara indicate that Gupta’s mother has traveled to Qatar to meet with the Indian ambassador, but they have not received a positive response yet. Gupta's case is not isolated; Indians have faced detention in Qatar before. In August 2022, eight former Indian Navy personnel were arrested on espionage charges, leading to various legal outcomes over the following months. The Indian government is monitoring Gupta's situation as his family continues their efforts to seek justice.
