Technology aims to support sexual assault survivors in South Sudan
Sexual assault remains a serious issue for women in South Sudan, with many facing barriers to accessing help. An Israel-based organization, IsraAID, has introduced a WhatsApp chatbot to assist survivors by quickly connecting them with social workers. The chatbot collects anonymous reports and notifies aid workers immediately, improving communication and reducing errors. In its first three months, it reported 135 cases. However, challenges like low mobile access and high illiteracy rates complicate its effectiveness. Despite the technology, stigma and limited resources hinder support for survivors. Many women still struggle to find help, and recent funding cuts have worsened the situation. Aid groups emphasize the need for community engagement and tailored solutions.
