Ted Sarandos questions Apple TV+ streaming strategy effectiveness
Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, shared his thoughts on the streaming strategies of competitors like Apple and Amazon. He finds Apple's approach puzzling and views it primarily as a marketing strategy. Sarandos believes that despite Apple’s intelligence, he does not completely grasp their streaming motivations. In an interview with Variety, Sarandos discussed Netflix's strong position in the market. He mentioned that the company has over 300 million subscribers and highlighted the diversity of content Netflix offers. He feels this variety, along with their investment in personalizing the viewing experience, sets them apart from competitors. When addressing Amazon Prime Video, Sarandos noted that while Amazon has been producing original content for as long as Netflix, he is unclear about their long-term plans. He still expressed confidence in Netflix's ability to outperform its rivals. Sarandos also criticized Warner Bros. Discovery for rebranding HBO Max to just Max. He expressed surprise that the HBO brand was diminished, emphasizing that HBO has a strong reputation that should be highlighted. Overall, despite the crowded streaming market, Sarandos feels optimistic about Netflix’s future and its ability to maintain its dominance.
