Teen arrested for shooting 15-year-old in East Oakland

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy in Oakland. The incident occurred on Monday as the victim, Derbing Jose Alvarado Gonzalez, was walking to soccer practice. Police announced the arrest on Thursday. They stated it was the result of teamwork among homicide investigators, patrol officers, and a special police unit in East Oakland. However, details on how the suspect was identified or where the arrest took place have not been revealed. Derbing was approached by two people who attempted to rob him of his backpack while he was walking with friends. After he did not comply, he was shot. The attackers fled without taking anything, and no one else was hurt. Derbing was a student at Cristo Rey De La Salle High School. His family described him as well-liked and a great son, mentioning he was a role model for his younger sister. Police have not confirmed if they are searching for any additional suspects.
