Teen authors publish children's books in Baton Rouge
Twelve new children's books were published by ninth graders at Tara High School in Baton Rouge this month. The students showcased their work during Family Literacy Night on February 26, featuring titles like "Esli’s Big Attitude" and "Runaway Robot." The students collaborated in teams, taking on roles such as author, illustrator, and editor. They began the project in October, drawing inspiration from personal challenges and experiences. Some illustrations were created using artificial intelligence, which presented its own difficulties. The students will read their books to younger children at local elementary schools, a tradition that was missed last year due to testing. This project is part of an ongoing partnership with the nonprofit Humanities Amped, which supports creative learning.
