Teen electrocuted at fair in Nalasopara, public unrest
A 19-year-old boy from Nalasopara died after being electrocuted at a fair in Vasai on Monday. He came into contact with a railing while watching rides. His death led to anger among the crowd, who damaged property at the fair. Police closed the fair and filed charges against the organiser and a ride operator. The operator has been arrested, while authorities are still searching for the organiser. Police are investigating how the railing became electrified. The victim, identified as Harsh Sen, was standing with friends when he touched a metal railing near the ticket counter and collapsed. Local residents and politicians are demanding accountability, wanting charges to be filed against civic officials who allowed the fair on a ground meant for sports. Concerns were raised even before the fair began, as it started on March 7. Joseph Varghese, a local housing society secretary, stated that safety protocols were not followed during the event. Deputy municipal commissioner Sameer Bhumkar announced that a new order will restrict the use of playgrounds in Vasai-Virar to sports activities only.
