Teens sentenced for brutal random stabbing in Sheffield
Two teenagers have been sentenced for a violent and random attack on a stranger in Sheffield. Ramaray Treasure, 18, and Leon Sykes, 19, chased and repeatedly stabbed a graduate student on March 9. The assault only stopped when a brave bystander intervened to help the victim. After the attack, Treasure and Sykes tried to escape but were identified through CCTV footage. They were recorded laughing as they walked away from the scene. When police approached them, Treasure threw away a knife, while Sykes acted defensively. Officers later recovered two knives related to the attack. Both teenagers pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possessing a weapon in public. At Sheffield Crown Court, Treasure was sentenced to 12 years, and Sykes received 13 years and eight months in prison. The victim shared his ongoing struggle with pain, anxiety, and depression since the attack. It has also stalled his career just after completing his master's degree. A police officer described the assault as "horrendous" and commended the bystander for their bravery. The officer expressed hope that the sentence would help the victim find some closure.
