Telangana clinics detect over 28,000 diabetes, hypertension cases
In Telangana, a program to detect diabetes and hypertension has revealed a significant number of new cases since its launch. The Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Clinics, which opened in December 2024, offer specialized care for lifestyle-related diseases. At the NCD Clinic in District Hospital King Koti, patients receive essential screenings. Sultana Begum, 47, is among many who visit daily for blood pressure and blood sugar checks. The clinic is staffed with nurses, a lab technician, and doctors, providing comprehensive healthcare services. All 35 NCD clinics are now operating in 33 Government General Hospitals and two hospitals in Hyderabad, including King Koti and Gandhi Hospital. As of March 2025, more than 120,000 people over the age of 30 have been screened at these clinics. Among those screened, over 26,000 individuals were found to have uncontrolled hypertension, and nearly 44,000 have diabetes. The clinics have identified 8,457 new cases of hypertension and 20,438 new cases of diabetes, according to a health official. This initiative aims to improve public health through early detection and treatment.
