Telangana criticizes Andhra for unfair water allocation

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for not protecting Telangana's water rights from Andhra Pradesh. He claimed the BRS allowed illegal water withdrawals and failed to contest an unfair water allocation. Uttam highlighted that Andhra Pradesh receives 512 TMC of Krishna river water, while Telangana gets only 299 TMC, despite having a larger catchment area. He accused the BRS of inaction that led to Telangana's losses. The Congress government is now implementing measures to monitor water levels at key dams to prevent unauthorized diversions by Andhra Pradesh. This includes installing telemetry instruments at Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam Dams.
