Telangana establishes mini-labs for food safety in Hyderabad
The Telangana government plans to improve food safety in Hyderabad by setting up mini-labs for testing food. These labs will be located in each zone of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The goal is to increase the capacity for testing food samples and ensure quality control. The new facilities are part of a bigger effort to reform food safety standards in the region. GHMC, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts represent over 60% of food businesses in Telangana. To ensure that all food businesses comply with safety regulations, the government will require them to register or get licenses from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). They will check trade license data and hawker survey records to make sure everyone follows the rules. The Food Safety Department will also expand its workforce. New posts and senior officers will be added to help enforce food safety regulations in the GHMC area.
