Telangana extends liquor supply bids to attract companies
The Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) has extended the deadline for companies to bid on supplying beer and Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL). The new deadline is April 2, 2025. This change comes after a previous extension that pushed the deadline from March 15 to March 24. TGBCL has been seeking new companies to enter the market due to a price increase for beer announced on February 23. Currently, only three major companies supply beer, while around 600 brands dominate the liquor market. The government aims to attract more suppliers, especially those offering imported alcohol. So far, TGBCL has received about 40 applications but hopes to receive more. Only a few beer companies have shown interest thus far. The beverages corporation has warned that any applications missing important details will be rejected and reserves the right to deny applications without explanation. This is only the second time since Telangana's formation in 2014 that TGBCL has called for applications for beer and liquor supply. The first tender was issued in 2018. The state is preparing for a new liquor policy, which will include auctioning wine shop licenses and expanding the number of bars and microbreweries. This is part of a broader effort to diversify the market and encourage more competition.
