The Telangana government has announced a budget of ₹10,188 crore for its Home Department, which is an increase of 6.52% from last year. Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka shared this news during the budget presentation in the Telangana Assembly on March 19. This funding represents about 3.35% of the state’s total budget of ₹3,04,965 crore. The government will focus on technology-driven policing to improve public services. The budget will also prioritize educational opportunities for police families and stricter measures against drug control. One key initiative is the establishment of the Young India Police Residential School in Manchirevula village. This school will cater to the children of police and other emergency service personnel, including those killed in the line of duty. The school will feature modern facilities and sports options, ensuring a well-rounded education for students. Additionally, the budget includes an increase in daily wages for home guards from ₹921 to ₹1,000. Families of home guards who die while on duty will receive ₹5 lakh in support. Drug control remains a top issue for the government. Vikramarka emphasized a strong stance against drug-related crimes, stating that the government has already seized drugs worth ₹148 crore in the past year. To assist in identifying potential drug use among students, the state has launched the Mitra App, which is currently used in 1,000 schools in Hyderabad. The plan is to expand this app throughout the state.
