Telangana increases Backward Classes reservation to 42%
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, senior leaders of the Congress party, praised the Telangana government for passing a new bill. This bill increases reservations for Backward Classes to 42%. Rahul Gandhi called the move a significant step for social justice. He noted that it removes the ceiling of 50% on reservations in the state. In a post on social media, Rahul Gandhi mentioned that a caste census, referred to as an "X-ray," is essential for the rights of backward and underprivileged communities. He emphasized that Telangana is setting an example for the rest of India in this regard. He stated that a caste census will be conducted across the country. Priyanka Gandhi also congratulated the Telangana government. She expressed her happiness for the people of Telangana and mentioned that the promise to enhance OBC reservations, made during the Assembly elections, has been fulfilled. She called this bill an important step for social and economic empowerment. Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal highlighted that this decision reflects the Congress party's commitment to social justice. He noted that Rahul Gandhi has been a key advocate for this cause and will continue to urge the central government to conduct a caste census across India.
