Telangana ranks fourth in Rurban mission performance nationally
Telangana has performed well in the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM), securing fourth place in India. The state achieved a score of 91.87 according to an assessment by the Ministry of Rural Development on January 25, 2025. Tamil Nadu ranked first, followed by Mizoram and Uttar Pradesh. The SPMRM aims to develop rural areas while providing urban-like facilities. The mission focuses on creating 300 clusters of villages across 34 states and union territories. The Telangana government is actively working on 17 clusters, which includes both tribal and non-tribal areas, with a total investment of about ₹1,885 crores. More than 70% of this funding comes from combining different Central and State government schemes. The program also includes Critical Gap Funding of up to 30% from the Ministry. Non-tribal clusters can receive up to ₹30 crores, while tribal clusters can get ₹15 crores. The goal is to enhance agriculture, tourism, animal husbandry, and fisheries, while also improving essential services such as health care, education, and sanitation. Rurban clusters are designed to bring together nearby villages, with populations ranging from 5,000 to 50,000, depending on the region. They are built around growth centers to support economic development. Telangana has made sure its Rurban clusters work closely with local governance for better management and service delivery.
