thehindu.com

The central government has ensured that farmers in Telangana have enough fertilizer for the current agricultural season. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced that more than 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea and various other fertilizers have been supplied from October 1, 2024, to March 24, 2025. So far, about 10.34 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 1.46 lakh metric tonnes of DAP have been sold. As of now, there is still a stock of 1.68 lakh metric tonnes of urea and over 2 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS available in Telangana. For the current Rabi season, the total fertilizer requirement is 9.80 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 7 lakh metric tonnes of NPKS. Kishan Reddy emphasized that the central government, under Prime Minister Modi, is closely monitoring fertilizer supplies to prevent shortages and malpractices. The Ministry of Agriculture is conducting weekly video conferences with state agricultural officials to ensure timely fertilizer distribution. Kishan Reddy noted that farmers can now access fertilizers at lower prices, thanks to significant subsidies provided since 2014. Additional measures include the revival of closed fertilizer plants and improvements in production capacity. The government is also working to prevent black-marketing through the Direct Benefit Transfer system.
