Telangana's aerospace exports surpass pharmaceuticals for first time
Telangana's aerospace and defence sector has outperformed its pharmaceutical sector in merchandise exports for the first time. This development is highlighted in the Telangana Socio Economic Outlook 2025. From April to December 2024, Telangana's total merchandise exports were estimated at Rs 1,00,268 crore. Of this, the aerospace and defence sector contributed about Rs 30,742 crore, which is nearly 31% of the total exports. In contrast, pharmaceutical products accounted for Rs 26,077 crore, or 26% of the exports. This marks a significant change, as in the previous financial year, the pharmaceutical sector led with exports of Rs 36,893 crore, making up 32% of Telangana's total. The aerospace and defence sector only contributed Rs 15,907 crore, or 14%, in that period. Five districts dominated the merchandise exports, accounting for over 90% of the total. Rangareddy was the leading district, contributing 41.5% at Rs 41,535 crore. Following it were Medchal-Malkajgiri, Sangareddy, and Hyderabad, each showing a slight drop in their contributions compared to the previous year. Other districts, including Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Medak, and Nalgonda, contributed smaller percentages to the total exports. Overall, Telangana's merchandise exports accounted for 3.21% of India's total exports, which were valued at Rs 36,19,292 crore for the same period.
