Telangana's economic growth favors Hyderabad and surroundings
The Telangana government has raised concerns about economic growth in the state. In its Socio-Economic Outlook (SEO) for 2025, the government pointed out that growth is heavily focused on urban areas, particularly around Hyderabad. The report used Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) data from revised estimates for 2023-24. GDDP measures the total value of goods and services produced in each district. It showed that Hyderabad and Rangareddy are leading the state's economy, with GDDP values of 2.5 lakh crore and 3.1 lakh crore, respectively. Other districts, like Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy, also contribute but still show a significant concentration of activity around Hyderabad. In contrast, Mulugu has the lowest GDDP at just 8,333 crore, while 18 districts reported GDDP of less than 25,000 crore. The total GDDP for the state is 14.64 lakh crore. This figure highlights both the state's economic potential and the need for more balanced growth across all districts. The report projected a GSDP of 16.12 lakh crore for 2024-25, suggesting a growth rate of 10.1%. At constant prices, GSDP is expected to reach 8.16 lakh crore, with a growth of 6.8%. The nominal GDP for 2024-25 is estimated at 331 lakh crore, showing a 9.9% growth compared to the previous year.
