Ten booked for clash involving PUCSC members in Chandigarh
A clash occurred in Sector 15 involving members of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday night. Police reported that Saksham Sharma from Amritsar claimed he and his friends were attacked by PUCSC joint secretary Jasvinder Rana, ABVP national secretary Aditya Takiar, and others over a dispute. Sharma was injured and needed treatment at a local hospital. As a result of the incident, police have booked about ten people, including Rana and Takiar. The conflict was reportedly sparked by rivalry between factions of ABVP in the area. Rana also suffered injuries during the clash. Police are investigating and will decide if a counter case should be registered. Charges against the accused include house trespass, rioting, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation. These charges are bailable, which means the accused are unlikely to be arrested immediately. Following the clash, ABVP's Punjab University president Parvinder Negi condemned the violence and announced the expulsion of five core members, including Rana. On the following day, over 100 ABVP members resigned in protest, accusing the organization of failing to act against Takiar and condemning his leadership style and violent actions.
