Tenant allowed to stay despite antisocial behavior complaints
A tenant of Kāinga Ora has been allowed to keep his home despite a history of antisocial behavior. This includes 25 complaints and six formal warnings, along with a police incident related to a shooting. Police confirmed the shooting happened, but the tenant did not communicate with them about it. The Tenancy Tribunal ruled that Kāinga Ora could not prove the complaints against the tenant. This case is similar to another recent decision in the same area. In February, a different tenant, Danielle Leaf-Marsh, was evicted for causing severe noise problems in her home. The recent tribunal hearing involved a resident causing trouble for neighbors in Tikipunga, Whangārei, for over a year. The ruling has raised concerns about the handling of antisocial behavior in Kāinga Ora properties.
