Tender issued for integrated vegetable market in Tiruchi
Tiruchi Corporation has started the process of building a new integrated vegetable and fruit market in Panjapur. The market will be located on the Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway over an area of about 22 acres. The project has a budget of ₹236 crore, funded by the Infrastructure and Amenities Funds and the Corporation Fund for the upcoming fiscal year. Additionally, ₹100 crore is being raised through municipal bonds. A senior official noted that an agency is currently working on the credit rating for these bonds. Tenders have been invited, with a deadline set for April 29. The project work is expected to begin shortly after a contractor is chosen. The construction is projected to take 18 months. Originally proposed in 2023, the project faced delays due to financial planning issues. The new two-storey market will feature over 800 shops, including a cold storage area. It will cater to both wholesale and retail vendors. Many wholesale traders currently in the Gandhi Market are expected to move to this new facility, which will also be near a new bus and truck terminal.
