Tennessee lawmakers progress on school and aid measures
Tennessee lawmakers have made significant progress in their 2025 session, passing bills to protect victims of unlawful photography and banning cellphones during school instructional time. They also approved $100 million in aid for Hurricane Helene victims and established a statewide school voucher program. Lawmakers are currently considering several controversial measures, including requiring schools to check students' immigration status and making driver’s license tests available only in English. They are also discussing public access to juvenile records of deceased school shooters and a bill to protect access to fertility treatments. Additionally, proposals include a 10% tax on vape products, a farmland conservation fund, and renaming Nashville International Airport after Donald Trump. Lawmakers are also preparing to address the state budget amid flat revenues.
