Tennessee middle school adopts Musketeers mascot after copyright dispute with University of Cincinnati
Cheatham Middle School in Tennessee has changed its mascot from Bearcats to Musketeers after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from the University of Cincinnati. The university claimed copyright infringement due to the use of a similar logo. The school announced the new mascot on social media, stating it was a response to the university's trademark rights. The Cheatham County School District had proposed to change the logo but was denied permission to continue using the Bearcats name. In support of the new mascot, a Cincinnati marketing company offered free design services. Additionally, a local venture is selling Musketeers merchandise, with proceeds going to the school.
