Tepco plans reactor restart in Niigata for 2025
Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) plans to restart a reactor at its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant in Niigata Prefecture in fiscal 2025. This change was approved by the government and is expected to increase Tepco's earnings by about ¥100 billion ($672 million) annually. Previously, Tepco aimed for a more extensive review of its business plan this fiscal year. However, the latest adjustments are provisional, as approval for restarting the plant remains uncertain. Tepco's new earnings forecast shows a net profit of ¥57.2 billion for the current fiscal year, compared to a projected ¥113.7 billion for the year ending March 2026, when the reactor is expected to restart. The revised plan also seeks increased state financial aid due to compensation payments from the Fukushima disaster.
