Tesla and Rivian have the most reliable EV charging networks
A new survey by Consumer Reports has found that Tesla and Rivian have the most reliable electric vehicle (EV) charging networks in the United States. The survey included responses from 1,230 EV owners between March 2024 and February 2024. Only 4% of Tesla users reported problems with the Supercharger network, while 5% had issues with Rivian's Adventure Network chargers. In contrast, other networks like Shell, EVgo, and Blink had much higher problem rates. For example, 48% of Shell users faced issues, while 43% of EVgo users and 41% of Blink users reported problems. The survey also noted that Electrify America and ChargePoint had significant issues, with 35% and 24% of users, respectively, experiencing difficulties. The reliability of Tesla and Rivian stands out, as they are the only networks with complaint rates in the single digits. As EV sales grow in the U.S., it’s clear that many charging networks are struggling to meet user needs. Common problems reported include payment issues and hardware malfunctions, particularly with screens. Consumer Reports aims to highlight these issues to encourage improvements. Tesla has developed its Supercharger network for over ten years, resulting in fewer problems compared to newer networks. Impressively, Rivian is showing similar reliability early on, having opened its first 100 stations with plans for 500 more. It will be crucial for Rivian to maintain this quality as it expands its network.
