Teurlings wrestler Brandt Babineaux finishes season undefeated

Brandt Babineaux, a senior at Teurlings Catholic, has been named the Acadiana Advocate's All-Metro Outstanding Wrestler for his impressive performance this season. Babineaux finished the year with an undefeated record of 42 wins and no losses. Teurlings Catholic's wrestling team had a remarkable season, winning multiple prestigious tournaments, including the Ken Cole, Louisiana Classic, and the LHSAA state championship. Babineaux played a crucial role in helping his team achieve this success at 165 pounds. Coaching staff praised Babineaux's improvement in mindset this year. Coach Kent Masson noted that he became more aggressive and confident in the finals of tournaments, contrasting with his tendency to play it safe in previous years. This change contributed to his dominating victories, including a 16-3 win in the state finals against Sawyer Pugh. Other notable wrestlers on the All-Metro team included Southside’s Zane Blanchard, who finished the season 50-0 at 106 pounds, and several Teurlings athletes, including Alex Rozas and Braeden Simoneaux. In addition, Brandon Wheatley from Acadiana was named Coach of the Year. He led the team to its first individual state titles since 2012, showcasing significant progress in a program that had faced challenges. The Acadiana boys finished 10th in Division I, while the girls placed 14th in their inaugural competition at the LHSAA tournament.
