Tewkesbury mill site may be redeveloped for public use

A historic mill in Tewkesbury, known as Healing's Flour Mills, may soon be redeveloped. The mill, located on Quay Street by the River Avon, has fallen into disrepair and is described as a "sad eyesore" by local officials. The mill has a long history dating back to at least the early 13th century. It was once the largest and most advanced flour mill in the UK, capable of producing 25 sacks of flour an hour. However, the site has been neglected and is now derelict. At a recent council meeting, Tewkesbury councillor Mike Styzmiack emphasized the need for action, noting that the mill's decline impacts both residents and visitors. Leaders at Tewkesbury Borough Council are in discussions with the property's owners, Corbally Group Ltd, who put it up for sale in 2017. Council leader Richard Stanley expressed optimism about the site's redevelopment. He believes it could become a valuable asset that attracts visitors and enhances the town's appeal. Stanley mentioned that negotiations have taken place regarding the council potentially acquiring part of the mill. He reassured residents that changes are in the works, though they are yet to be visible. The council hopes to turn the waterfront area into a vibrant destination for both locals and tourists.
