Texas couple engaged after life-saving rescue five years ago
A Texas college senior recently got engaged to her high school sweetheart, who saved her life five years ago. Brooklyn Boyer suffered a serious injury while swimming in June 2020. At that time, she and Alan Mann were only dating for a week. Boyer hit her head at the bottom of the pool, which left her paralyzed. Mann, who was 16 and had lifeguarding training, quickly jumped in to help her until paramedics arrived. He believes their bond was meant to be, saying, “That day was hard, but looking back at all the good things...it's amazing.” Boyer underwent months of rehabilitation and worried about their relationship. She told Mann it was okay if he wanted to break up. However, he remained by her side, proving his commitment. Despite her challenges, Boyer has made significant progress and can now drive. She continues to aim for the goal of walking again. In late February, Mann proposed to Boyer during a belated Valentine’s Day dinner. She excitedly accepted, expressing disbelief at their engagement. The couple is now looking forward to their future together.
