Texas launches iWatchTexas feature for reporting foreign influence
AUSTIN — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has introduced a new feature in the iWatchTexas Community Reporting System. This change aims to help protect Texans from harassment and coercion by foreign adversaries. Under the new system, people can report concerns related to foreign influence when they submit a report. Governor Greg Abbott emphasized that keeping Texans safe is a top priority. Last year, he instructed DPS to update iWatchTexas to address concerns about threats from hostile foreign groups, like the Chinese Communist Party. Reports submitted through this new feature will be sent directly to DPS for review. The types of threats that can be reported include violence, harassment, and intimidation from foreign governments. DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin stated that this addition will help the department tackle a broader range of security threats in Texas. The iWatchTexas system is a tool for residents to report suspicious activities in their communities and schools. Reports can be made via a mobile app, online, or by phone. Most reports take less than five minutes to submit. All reports are confidential, although providing contact information can help with follow-up questions. The iWatchTexas app is free and available for both iPhone and Android users. Texans are encouraged to download it as soon as possible. However, it is important to note that iWatchTexas is not for reporting emergencies; for urgent situations, people should call 911.
