Texas nonprofit for migrant kids increased executive salaries significantly
Southwest Key Programs, a major provider of housing for unaccompanied migrant children, received about $3 billion in federal grants from the Biden administration. During this time, executive salaries surged significantly, with some increases reaching up to 139%. The organization faced investigations and a federal lawsuit over allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking of children in its care. Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services announced it would stop funding Southwest Key due to ongoing concerns about these issues. Following this decision, the Department of Justice dismissed its lawsuit against Southwest Key. The nonprofit denied the abuse claims and attributed layoffs to a funding freeze imposed by the previous administration.
