Texas woman arrested for assaulting postal worker
A landscaper in Texas has been arrested after a confrontation with a postal worker that was recorded on video. The incident took place in Harris County, where Margarita Avila, working near a community mailbox, allegedly injured the postal worker with a weed eater. Avila's family claims she is the victim and that she acted in self-defense. According to her daughter, Lisbet Avila, Margarita was wearing protective gear at the time. Lisbet stated that the postal worker was the one who started the fight by knocking Margarita's glasses off her face. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office charged Margarita with assault and shared details about the arrest on Facebook. This charge has put her in a complicated legal situation, especially with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her family worries about the impact this has on their lives. They have hired two lawyers: one for the criminal charge and another to handle immigration issues. They hope to have the charges dropped so Margarita can be released from ICE custody. The United States Postal Service has confirmed they are aware of the situation and have talked to the postal worker involved. However, they are not conducting their own investigation and have referred all questions to local authorities. As of now, officials from Precinct 4 have not commented further on the case.
