Thailand plans Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bangkok by 2028
The Thai government is looking to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bangkok starting in 2028. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has announced plans for a feasibility study to explore this possibility. The aim is to boost tourism and improve infrastructure in Thailand. During a recent meeting with Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali, they discussed how Bangkok could host a street race. The government plans to assess the necessary investments, possible race routes, and the economic benefits for the country. Prime Minister Shinawatra believes that organizing such a large event could help build new infrastructure and create jobs. She mentioned that hosting the race would bring new technologies and innovations to Thailand. Domenicali praised Thailand's plans, describing them as "impressive" and expressing hope for future discussions. Currently, Thailand has an FIA-accredited circuit in Buriram, but this proposal focuses on a street race in the capital. If successful, Thailand would join a growing list of Formula 1 venues, which includes 24 races worldwide. The country is eager to establish itself as a key player in international sporting events. The feasibility study will help determine if Bangkok can meet the challenges of hosting a Grand Prix amid rising global interest in the sport.
