Thailand's heat index is dangerously high
Thailand is experiencing rising temperatures as the hot season begins. Health authorities are warning people to stay out of the sun, as the heat index has reached dangerous levels. The index has shown temperatures between 42°C and 51.9°C in some areas, which poses health risks. People in the southern, central, eastern, and northeastern regions are particularly at risk. Dr. Thiti Sawangtham, a senior health official, advises avoiding outdoor activities and staying hydrated during these hot days. He highlighted that heat rash, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke could be life-threatening. Vulnerable groups include the elderly, overweight individuals, outdoor workers, heavy drinkers, and those with pre-existing health issues. On Monday, ten provinces in northern Thailand reported temperatures between 38°C and 39°C. However, there is some relief ahead as cooler temperatures are expected in the northern region until Saturday due to a cold air mass. The weather forecast indicates strong winds but less rain. Areas of Thailand can expect hotter weather again from March 23-28, along with scattered summer storms beginning around March 29. This summer is not predicted to be as hot as last year.
