Thailand's pawnshops reported 1.33 million items pawned
In 2024, state-run pawnshops in Thailand accepted 1.33 million items, with gold and mobile phones being the most popular. The Ministry of Social Development reported that over 20 billion baht was lent to customers. Gold, red gold, and diamonds made up 97.56% of pawned items. Mobile phones were the top electronics pawned, along with other household appliances and tools used for work. The Office of the Government Pawnshop opened a new branch in Bangkok, increasing the total to 47. Interest rates for loans vary from 0.25% to 1.25%, depending on the amount borrowed.
