Thales consortium EISNET enhances European air defense capabilities
A new project called EISNET has been launched to strengthen European air defense. Thales, a leader in technology, is coordinating this initiative with 23 partners from various industries, research centers, and universities across twelve EU countries. EISNET aims to improve the performance of Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) systems. This includes protecting the European Union from threats like drone swarms and hypersonic missiles. The project is funded by the European Defence Fund and aims to create common standards and demonstrate new technologies. At the launch event in January 2025, 65 representatives from European industries and research participated. EISNET plans to develop the EISNET Architecture Framework Tool (EAFT). This tool will help different radars and command systems communicate and share data in real-time, making air defense faster and more effective. The project is focused on reducing delays in decision-making during high-speed attacks. By creating an open standard, EISNET will ensure that various IAMD systems can work together smoothly. Raphaël Desi, a Thales executive, emphasized the importance of air superiority for national security. EISNET is viewed as a significant step toward a new generation of air defense technology. Thales has a strong presence in defense technology, investing heavily in research and development. The company employs over 83,000 people worldwide and recorded sales of €20.6 billion in 2024.
