The Wombats energize Manchester crowds with lively performance
Lead singer of The Wombats, Matthew Murphy, praised Manchester during the band’s concert at the AO Arena on Saturday night. He called the city "one of the greatest" on Earth. The Liverpool group, formed in 2003, performed as part of their arena tour for their sixth album, Oh! The Ocean. The concert attracted thousands of fans who enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Red Rum Club and Everything Everything opened, delivering a great performance. Everything Everything, a local favorite, played ten songs, including hits like Kemosabe and Cough Cough. Their frontman, Jonathan Higgs, showcased his impressive vocals, leaving the audience excited for the main act. When The Wombats took the stage, they kicked things off with high-energy songs like Moving to New York and Techno Fan. The crowd of over 10,000 responded enthusiastically to Murphy's playful engagement. The band's mix of catchy indie pop and humor keeps fans devoted, including many new ones. During the show, Murphy shared a humorous song about gender and reflected on his time in Japan. The band closed the main set with Let’s Dance to Joy Division, featuring dancers in wombat suits and floating confetti. Fans were delighted as they caught inflatable balls tossed from the stage. After the main performance, The Wombats returned for an encore that included fan-favorite Greek Tragedy. As the concert came to a close, fans left with the colorful inflatable balls as souvenirs from a memorable night in Manchester.
