A man has been sentenced to prison for stealing fishing equipment worth £10,000 in Essex. David Keenan, 38, was caught after a GPS tag he was wearing revealed his location. The theft occurred in August, when Keenan burglarized a shed in Saffron Walden. At the time of the theft, he was already serving a suspended sentence for previous burglaries. Keenan admitted to the burglary and violating his suspended sentence. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison by Chelmsford Crown Court. CCTV footage showed him carrying the stolen fishing gear. Police found the T-shirt he wore during the theft at his home when he was arrested on September 20. PC Ryan McNamara, who monitored Keenan with the GPS tag, emphasized its importance. He noted that the tag helped police arrest Keenan quickly, as he continued to commit crimes despite his previous sentence. The victim of the theft was left upset by the loss of valuable equipment.
