Thirteen foreigners arrested for cannabis smuggling in Thailand
Thirteen foreigners were arrested at Samui airport in Thailand for attempting to smuggle 375kg of cannabis over four days. The cannabis, valued at about US$2.2 million, was found in 22 bags. Twelve of the suspects were headed to Singapore, while one was bound for Hong Kong. Some were reportedly hired to carry the drugs in exchange for payment or debt repayment. In a separate incident, four British men were arrested with 131kg of cannabis. They had been hired as tourists and were caught after fleeing when their bags were scanned. Another suitcase containing 24kg of cannabis was mistakenly taken to Japan.
