Thiruvananthapuram doctor loses Rs 2.25 lakh to fraud

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

A doctor in Thiruvananthapuram reported that his credit card details were hacked. The fraudsters spent Rs 2.25 lakh on home appliances from an online store. The incident happened on March 6, and the doctor acted quickly. He reported the crime to the police just minutes after he noticed the unauthorized purchases. Despite his quick report, the police did not respond right away. The doctor said he made his statement 14 days after the crime, and the official police report, or FIR, was filed on the 15th day. He had used three credit cards from different banks, including ICICI Bank. Messages alerted him about the purchases on the ICICI card, and he also found attempts to access his other cards. The doctor blocked all his credit cards immediately and contacted the crime records portal to file a complaint. City cyber police informed him that they only investigate frauds above Rs 10 lakh. On March 7, the Medical College police finally recorded his complaint, and an FIR was filed the next day. The fraudsters had the products delivered to a home in Bhubaneswar. The police have started an investigation under the BNS Section 318 for cheating. Meanwhile, the doctor has reached out to his bank to request that he not be liable for the stolen amount, but he has not received a favorable response.
