Thomas Colon sentenced to life for murder in Portland
A Portland man was sentenced to life in prison after killing another man, Andrew Hathaway, in 2018. Thomas Colon was found guilty of second-degree murder and other charges. He will be eligible for parole after 25 years. Colon attacked Hathaway during a fight that broke out while four men were using drugs together. Witnesses said Colon was winning the fight while Hathaway screamed for help. Despite attempts to break it up, Colon continued to beat and stab Hathaway until he died. After the attack, Colon and another man put Hathaway's body in his car's trunk. They then drove to a vacant parking lot and set the car on fire. Firefighters later discovered Hathaway's body, which had suffered severe burns. An autopsy showed he had 55 stab wounds. Multnomah County District Attorney Shawn Overstreet said the sentence provided some justice for Hathaway's family. This case involved a complicated investigation that took several years, but authorities worked hard to find the truth.
