Thomas Detry won WM Phoenix Open with last-minute tip
Thomas Detry recently achieved his first PGA Tour victory at the WM Phoenix Open, winning by an impressive seven shots. The 32-year-old golfer almost didn't participate in the tournament due to fatigue from his busy schedule of competing in five tournaments over six weeks. Detry shared his experience on the GOLF's Subpar podcast. Despite feeling tired, he decided to proceed with playing in Phoenix. However, his practice session before the tournament raised concerns. He struggled with his swing and contemplated whether he should have skipped the event. In a last-minute effort to improve, Detry reached out to his coach, who was in Riyadh at the time. Even though it was early morning there, his coach helped him with a simple swing tip that focused on maintaining a straight left arm and a wide stance. This adjustment made a significant difference. With his new technique, Detry opened the tournament with an impressive score of 66. He followed up with rounds of 64, 65, and 65 to secure his victory. Although he did not perform as well in subsequent tournaments, he remains 9th in the FedEx Cup standings, thanks to his win at the Phoenix Open.
