Thousands of Imran Khan supporters march to Islamabad despite lockdown and arrests
Thousands of supporters of Imran Khan, Pakistan's former prime minister, are marching to Islamabad to demand his release. This comes despite a lockdown and over 4,000 arrests of Khan's supporters since Friday. Khan has been imprisoned for over a year and faces more than 150 criminal cases, which his party claims are politically motivated. Protesters are using heavy machinery to remove roadblocks set up by police to prevent their arrival in the capital. Authorities have restricted mobile and internet services in protest areas and warned that anyone violating a court ban on rallies will be arrested. Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, claims the number of protesters will exceed official estimates of 9,000 to 11,000.
