Three arrested for cheating woman in Chennai

Three people have been arrested in Chennai for cheating a woman out of 26.5 lakh rupees and gold jewellery. The accused include two women and a man. Their names are S Sumathi, 43, M Rajadurai, 54, and A Malar, 41. The victim, Yamini, 40, met the three individuals in 2013. They became friends and borrowed money from her under false pretenses. Over the years, Yamini gave them 26.5 lakh in cash and 17 sovereigns of gold jewellery. After the Covid-19 pandemic, Yamini asked for her money and gold back. The accused avoided her and made excuses. Initially, the Anna Nagar police did not take her complaint seriously. Frustrated, Yamini took her case to court, seeking legal help. Following the court's order, police finally registered her case. Investigations revealed that the accused never planned to return the money or gold. All three have been arrested and are now in judicial custody.
