Three arrested in Michigan for animal and child abuse

Three adults were arrested in Michigan after a shocking discovery at their home. Authorities found a dead puppy in a pizza box, along with several other abused animals and a 9-year-old boy living in poor conditions. The situation came to light when AT&T employees found $30,000 worth of stolen cables. They reported their findings to local sheriff's deputies, who then discovered the dead dog in a cage outside the house. Inside, they found other starving dogs that had not eaten for weeks. Sheriff Christopher Swanson expressed his anger at the neglect. He described the living conditions as “deplorable” and noted that a 9-year-old boy was also present. He did not provide details about the boy's relationship to the adults involved. Kelly Walker, 29, Charles Ashbaker, 38, and Douglas Nelson, 47, have been charged with various crimes. Walker and Ashbaker face charges of child abuse and animal cruelty. Ashbaker also faces an additional charge related to firearm possession. Nelson has been charged with theft and drug possession. The 9-year-old boy has been placed in the care of Child Protective Services. The two surviving dogs have been taken to a rescue center. Walker and Ashbaker are being held on a $10,000 bond each, while Nelson's bond is set at $5,000. Sheriff Swanson urged those in difficult situations to seek help instead of neglecting their responsibilities. He emphasized that they would be held accountable for their actions.
