Three men were arrested in Mumbai for a fraud scheme involving fake Aadhaar cards and bank accounts. Suspicious bank staff at a nationalized branch in Thane noticed the men opening numerous accounts and alerted the police. The investigation revealed that the trio had been acquiring Aadhaar cards fraudulently. They altered the photos on these IDs and charged cybercriminals a fee for using them. They also managed to secure loans from banks with these fake documents. Following the tip-off, police raided a dormitory in Fort and arrested the men. They recovered 95 Aadhaar cards, several PAN cards, and various bank passbooks. The suspects were identified as Umesh Darshan, 32, Aman Kumar Dillip Prasad, 23, and Rahul Kumar Sanjay Kumar Verma, 30, all from Bihar. A police officer explained that the men obtained Aadhaar information from certain areas. They would then change the photo and approach local banks to open accounts using the altered cards. Their frequent visits drew suspicion, ultimately leading to their arrest. The officer added that the men had used this method to open accounts across multiple states.
