Three charged with animal abuse in Flint home
Three people in Flint, Michigan, have been charged with animal abuse after police discovered two dead dogs and two emaciated dogs at their home. A nine-year-old boy was also found living in poor conditions. The individuals arrested are Charles Ashbaker, 38, Kelly Walker, 29, and Dougal Nelson Jr., 47. Authorities were alerted by AT&T workers who noticed a stolen manhole cover near the residence. When police arrived, they found a dead dog in a cage outside and another dead puppy inside a pizza box. The living conditions in the home were described by Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson as “deplorable." The house lacked power and had spoiled food throughout. Ashbaker faces multiple serious charges, including animal cruelty and child abuse. Walker is also charged with similar offenses. Nelson Jr. has charges for resisting arrest and drug possession. Sheriff’s deputies rescued the two living dogs and coordinated with Child Protective Services for the child. All three suspects are currently being held at the Genesee County Jail.
