Three family members attempted self-immolation over land dispute
On Monday afternoon, a man and his two sisters attempted to set themselves on fire at the collectorate. They were protesting against the alleged illegal encroachment on their land by the village head and his associates. Fortunately, police and staff at the collectorate intervened and saved them. The man, Gulab Chand Patel, lives in Sehua Dih village in Prayagraj district. He claims that Dilip Yadav, the village head, demolished the boundary wall of his property last December. Patel also says that Yadav made a road through his land without permission. Patel has filed complaints with the local police and higher officials, but he says he received no help. Frustrated and hopeless, he and his sisters reached the collectorate on Monday morning and doused themselves in petrol. After the incident, senior officials took Patel's application and promised to investigate the matter. The local police station's officer reported that a survey of the land was conducted that evening. They expect to take action once the survey report is complete.
