Three men died after their motorcycle came into contact with a broken high-tension wire in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, on Sunday. The victims were identified as Pitharam Devasi, Kaluram Devasi, and Jetharam Devasi. The accident occurred on the Mundiyad-Kadlu road while they were traveling to Kadlu village. Officials stated that a live wire was lying on the road. When the motorcycle passed over it, an electric current surged through the bike, causing it to catch fire. All three men were trapped and burnt alive, with their motorcycle completely destroyed. Local residents were quick to alert both the electricity department and the police. Following this, the power supply was cut off. Many locals expressed their anger, claiming negligence by electricity department officials led to this tragedy. Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal spoke out about the incident, calling for compensation of Rs 15 lakh for each victim's family. He criticized the state of electrical maintenance, stating that despite large sums being spent on upkeep, high-tension wires often remain on the ground, creating dangerous conditions. Beniwal also called for the suspension of the assistant engineer responsible for the maintenance of high-tension lines, holding them accountable for the incident. He emphasized that maintenance efforts seemed to exist only on paper and announced he had discussed the issue with the managing director of Ajmer Discom.
