Three staff suspended for Holi celebrations in ICU
Three outsourced employees at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack have been suspended after an unauthorized Holi celebration in the trauma ICU. This incident occurred on March 15 and was captured in a video, which later went viral on social media, sparking public outrage. The hospital administration immediately began an investigation. They reviewed CCTV footage and questioned employees who were on duty, including doctors, nurses, and security staff. Subash Ray, the registrar, stated that three outsourced staff members, two attendants and one security guard, were terminated. Additionally, seven nursing staff received show-cause notices. Ray highlighted that this behavior is not acceptable in a healthcare environment. He stressed that hospitals are places where patients expect care and safety. The administration plans to strengthen protocols to prevent similar events in the future. Further actions will depend on a forthcoming report from the trauma care department head. This incident raises serious concerns about professional conduct in critical care areas, especially since festivities occurred where patients were being treated.
